Africa’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trade volume, VALR, has officially opened applications for a Country Manager – Kenya, marking a strategic step in the company’s continental expansion.

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Johannesburg, VALR serves more than 1 million users globally, including over 1,100 corporate and institutional clients. The exchange is licensed by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in South Africa and has secured additional regulatory approvals internationally, positioning it as one of Africa’s most trusted and compliant digital asset platforms.

Driving Growth in Kenya

As part of its East African expansion strategy, VALR is seeking a senior executive to lead its market entry and operations in Kenya. The Country Manager will play a pivotal role in establishing regulatory engagement, building strategic partnerships, and driving commercial growth in one of Africa’s most dynamic fintech ecosystems.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Central Bank of Kenya and other regulatory stakeholders to ensure compliance while overseeing local operations, partnerships, and revenue growth.

Role Overview

The Kenya Country Manager will:

  • Lead VALR’s market entry and expansion strategy in Kenya
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance and maintain strong relationships with authorities
  • Build and manage local teams across operations, compliance, and growth
  • Develop partnerships with banks, fintechs, and payment providers
  • Manage Kenya’s P&L and drive sustainable commercial performance
  • Represent VALR at industry forums, regulatory engagements, and media events

Ideal Candidate Profile

VALR is seeking a seasoned leader with:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in financial services, fintech, or crypto
  • At least 3 years in a senior leadership role
  • Deep knowledge of Kenya’s financial and regulatory environment, including AML/KYC frameworks
  • Proven P&L management experience in a regulated market
  • Strong relationships within Kenya’s banking and fintech ecosystem
  • Permanent residence in Kenya

Fluency in English is required, with Kiswahili considered an advantage.
